Want to Join the Team at HWC?

Updated: Mar 2, 2024

Most people enter the sector working as a care assistant or support worker and then develop into different roles.  We have many opportunities within Handle With Care which support great career progression opportunities. You might already know where you want to go within your career and we fully support employees to get to where they want to be.

Plenty of care assistants / support workers love their current role as well as the flexibility that comes with it. However they are lots of other ways you can progress. For example, if you love working with specific conditions you could work predominantly in those areas. For example, if your passion would be providing dignified end of life care then you could look at working is a hospice or in palliative care.

What roles could I progress to after working as a care assistant?

Senior Team Leader – They work directly with service users and care teams. You are still very much on the front line and less office based but you are leading a team to deliver the highest level of care and reporting to Care Coordinators and Care Managers. As a Senior Team Leader you will often have new staff shadowing you.

Care Coordinator – This is a more office-based role where you will prepare rota’s and carry out admin duties.  Care Coordinators support compliance across the field and continuously update care plans and liaise with professional bodies such as social workers and GPs.  If you are organised and know how to motivate a team this could be the role for you.

Registered Manager – Having front line experience and being a good leader is vital for this role. They are responsible for all employee’s, service users, and processes within the organisation whilst keeping upto date with changing regulations. With experience of working on the front line this helps understand the daily challenges care workers can come across.

Case Study - Career Progression Success with HWC

Steph started working for HWC is 2020 in the pandemic with no prior health and social care experience. It was very clear from Steph's background that she was a leader. Working on the front line as a Care Assistant she underpinned her knowledge and skills within the sector. Steph then began to study her NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care in 2021. In 2022 she progressed into a Care Coordinator role and now works closely with the branch manager supporting the team of care assistants to develop the highest standard of care.
